Bsc in Computing

Our School of Technology offers a Bachelor of Science in Computing in collaboration with the University of Technology. This is a four-year degree programme with years one and two being completed at the Moneague College main campus in St. Ann. Years three and four of the programme are completed at the University of Technology’s main campus in Kingston.

Computer Science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes.

Programme Description

The Bachelor of Science program in Applied Computer Science is designed for people who are interested in becoming computer science professionals. The curriculum is designed to provide students with the competencies to specialise in areas such as Relational Database Management, Web Development, and Software Engineering.

Programme Goals:

This programme seeks to prepare students with professional knowledge, values, and skills for Computer Science practice that meet the needs of various stakeholders within the industry by creating an environment that offers value oriented learning that emphasizes life-long learning, service to community, self-etermination and respect for diversity.

The programme aims to:

  1. Inspire and challenge students and prepare them for the future
  2. Promote meaningful progression towards high standards in all learning areas
  3. Provide knowledge, skills, and attitudes which support future learning
  4. Emphasise divergent thinking and outcomes CCCJ – B.Sc. Applied Computer Science
  5. Develop independent thinking skills
  6. Develop in students the capacity to learn
  7. Allow students to relate theory to practice in authentic settings
  8. Prepare students for middle level positions in the Software Engineering sector

A graduate of the program should be able to:

  1. Design, produce, test, implement and maintain websites
  2. Produce applications for mobile devices
  3. Maintain the integrity and security of a database
  4. Perform data warehousing and data-mining activities
  5. Design, develop, implement and test software applications, database management systems,
    and Local Area Networks
  6. Conceptualize information systems as structured configurations of elements behaving
    collectively to serve the information needs of today’s’ organizations

Matriculation Requirements:

An applicant MUST have a minimum of five (5) passes in subjects at CSEC or GCE O’ Level
